Spangled Tyre

Middle Dutch spange, clasp / metal-disc — past-participle of spangle. Tyre color refers to a Tyre-produced Tyrian purple dyed Roman toga picta: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the matte finish of multi-bath Bolinus brandaris shellfish dye on woolen toga cloth.
