Cellophane Copper
Cellophane Copper (#DCC3B6) is a soft orange with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Modern French cellophane, cellulose-thin-film — coined in 1900 by Jacques-E.-Brandenberger. As a color modifier, cellophane implies a pale-and-clear-and-thin-film quality, the pale color of Mid-Century-Modern clear-and-thin cellulose-acetate cellophane-wrapping translucent-film surface. Sits at the pale-and-thin end of the grid, parallel to glassine and tissue in usage.
Element Cu, atomic number 29 — one of the first metals worked by humans, smelted in Anatolia and the Levant by the fourth millennium BCE. The color refers to freshly polished copper before oxidation: a warm, slightly red metallic orange with the satin finish of a coin or a kettle. Left in air, it dulls to brown; left in salt air, it greens to verdigris. The starting color of every copper roof.
