Twinkling Mahogany (#DC8108) is a true orange with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Its HSL profile (34°, 93%, 45%) places it in the highly saturated band at a mid lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
Old English twinclian, to wink rapidly — present-participle of twinkle. As a color modifier, twinkling implies a saturated-and-rapid-flicker-reflective quality, the bright color of Christmas-fairy-light and night-sky-star atmospheric-scintillation. Sits at the bright-and-reflective end of the grid, parallel to sparkling and glittering in usage.
The genus Swietenia — particularly S. macrophylla, the South and Central American hardwood prized since the eighteenth century for furniture and ship building. The color refers to a freshly polished Honduras mahogany table: a deep, slightly red-shifted dark brown with the satin finish of high-density tropical hardwood.
