Sheer Dijon
Sheer Dijon (#DAE2BD) is a soft yellow with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (73°, 39%, 81%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Etymology
Old English scīr, clear, pure — used as a color modifier since the eighteenth century for hues with the optical translucency of fine fabric. Sheer white, sheer blue: very low saturation combined with the optical impression of fabric with low fiber density. Sits at the pale-bucket alongside diaphanous.
The Burgundian capital that gave its name to the smooth, sharp prepared mustard developed there in the nineteenth century — moutarde de Dijon, made with verjuice instead of vinegar. The color refers to a freshly opened jar of Dijon: a warm, slightly muted gold-yellow that's deeper than honey and earthier than canary. The geographic indication Moutarde de Bourgogne protects a similar style; Dijon itself is now a generic term in commerce.
