Dappled Sicily
Dappled Sicily (#DADEC1) is a soft yellow with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (68°, 31%, 81%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Old Norse depill, spot / pool — past-participle of dapple. As a color modifier, dappled implies a pale-and-mottled-and-light-and-shadow-spotted quality, the pale color of summer-orchard sun-through-leaves dappled-light-and-shadow ground-pattern surface. Sits at the pale-and-soft end of the grid, parallel to speckled and mottled in usage.
The Italian island — and the saturated lemon-yellow of Sicilian limoncello, granita al limone, and the lemon orchards of the Conca d'Oro. Sicily as a color refers to the inside of a Sicilian Femminello lemon cut against a market-stall backdrop: a saturated, slightly cool deep yellow with the optical brightness of high-water-content citrus.
