Diaphanous Sininen
Diaphanous Sininen (#D8FAFC) is a soft cyan with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (183°, 86%, 92%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary red. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
From the Greek diaphanēs, transparent — used as a color modifier since the seventeenth century for hues with the optical translucency of fine fabric. Diaphanous white, diaphanous pink: very low saturation combined with the optical impression of light passing through. Sits at the pale-bucket alongside sheer.
The Finnish word for blue — used for the Suomenlippu (Finnish flag) and the saturated blue of Finnish lake water. Sininen covers the entire blue-cyan spectrum in Finnish color vocabulary. The color refers to a Finnish lake at midsummer: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue with the optical depth of clear glacial-lake water.
