Open Tugtupite
Open Tugtupite (#D7B1C6) is a soft magenta with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Quiet and dependable, a fit for product UI and data visualization. Its HSL profile (327°, 32%, 77%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. Etymology
Old English open, unobstructed — used as a color modifier since the eighteenth century for hues that read as airy or uncrowded. Open blue, open green: moderate saturation combined with optical spaciousness, the slight visual breath of a hue that doesn't crowd the surface it covers. Rare beryllium-zinc silicate mineral first described from the Tugtup agtakôrfia (reindeer-blood place) deposit of Greenland in 1962. The mineral is fluorescent and tenebrescent (color-changes with UV exposure). Tugtupite color refers to a freshly UV-exposed Tugtup agtakôrfia tugtupite cabochon: a saturated, slightly cool deep magenta with the silky finish of tenebrescent beryllium-silicate. The Greenlandic name reflects Inuit reindeer-blood iconography.
