Latin fluēre, to flow — adjectival suffix -escent. Hyacinthine color refers to a hyacinthine-dyed Roman toga praetexta border: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the matte finish of multi-bath woad-and-madder overdye on woolen toga cloth.
