Earnest Henna
Earnest Henna (#D7126C) is a true magenta with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Its HSL profile (333°, 85%, 46%) places it in the highly saturated band at a mid lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Old English eornost, seriousness, zeal. Used as a color modifier since the nineteenth century for hues that read as committed but unshowy — the working blues of denim, the deep greens of Quaker meetinghouses. Lawsonia inermis, the small flowering shrub of North Africa and South Asia whose dried leaves yield a red-brown dye used since the Bronze Age for skin, hair, and textile. The color refers to fresh henna paste applied to skin, where it oxidizes to a deep brick-red over forty-eight hours. Earthier than rose, more orange than maroon, with the slow-developed quality particular to plant-based dye.
