Pallid Periwinkle
Pallid Periwinkle (#D5CCEF) is a soft indigo with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (255°, 52%, 87%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary lime. Etymology
Latin pallidus, pale. As a color modifier, pallid implies a pale-and-drained-of-color quality where the hue carries the visual register of Edwardian-period drained-of-vitality-and-pale dimmed-lighting interior color-finish. Sits at the pale-and-drained end of the grid, parallel to wan and pasty in usage.
Vinca minor, the trailing groundcover of European woodland whose pale blue-violet flowers gave English the color name in the eighteenth century. Distinct from Catharanthus roseus (Madagascar periwinkle, the source of vincristine for chemotherapy). The color refers to the corolla of a fresh Vinca flower: a soft, slightly violet-shifted pale blue with the matte finish of five-petaled bloom. Lighter than bluebell, cooler than lavender.
