Old English forð-riht, straight ahead, direct. Used as a color modifier in Anglo-Saxon-revival contexts for hues that read as honest and unguarded. Purple dye of late-classical antiquity, mentioned in Pliny the Elder's Natural History (77 CE) as a substitute for the more expensive Tyrian purple, derived from a combination of woad and madder. Hyacinthine color refers to a hyacinthine-dyed Roman toga praetexta border: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the matte finish of multi-bath woad-and-madder overdye on woolen toga cloth. Slightly cooler than Tyrian.
