Sturdy Karashi
Sturdy Karashi (#D3610F) is a true orange with a vibrant character. It holds its own as a focal accent, carrying visual weight without tipping into neon territory. Etymology
Old French estourdi, stunned, reckless — drifted in English to mean robust, well-built. Used as a color modifier since the seventeenth century for hues that read as durable and unfussy — the working browns of saddle leather, the working greens of pasture wool. Sits in the bold-and-warm corner alongside robust and solid.
The Japanese word for prepared mustard — a sharper, more horseradish-leaning mustard than its Western counterpart, served as a condiment with natto and oden. The color refers to fresh karashi paste on a small dish: a saturated, slightly muted yellow-orange with the dusty finish of mustard-seed powder. Warmer than mustard, drier than turmeric.
