Hemmed Dust
Hemmed Dust (#D1ADED) is a soft indigo with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (274°, 64%, 80%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary lime. Old English hem, border — past-participle of hem. As a color modifier, hemmed implies a clear-and-finished-and-bordered quality where the hue carries the visual register of carefully-hemmed-and-finished textile-edge. Fine particulate matter — atmospheric dust from soil weathering, dry-lakebed loess, the micron-scale residue that settles on every surface in any room with air movement. The color refers to fresh undisturbed dust on a piano lid: a soft, slightly muted very pale warm gray with the powdery finish of micron-scale particles. Lighter than ash, warmer than stone.
