Cellophane Geranium
Cellophane Geranium (#D0ACBE) is a soft magenta with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Quiet and dependable, a fit for product UI and data visualization. Its HSL profile (330°, 28%, 75%) places it in the muted band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. Etymology
Modern French cellophane, cellulose-thin-film — coined in 1900 by Jacques-E.-Brandenberger. As a color modifier, cellophane implies a pale-and-clear-and-thin-film quality, the pale color of Mid-Century-Modern clear-and-thin cellulose-acetate cellophane-wrapping translucent-film surface. Sits at the pale-and-thin end of the grid, parallel to glassine and tissue in usage.
The genus Pelargonium (commonly called geraniums in English horticulture) — particularly P. zonale and P. peltatum, the bright red-flowered geraniums of European balconies and hanging baskets. The color refers to a fresh red geranium bloom in summer: a saturated, slightly orange red with the matte finish of small clustered five-petaled flowers. Brighter than scarlet, warmer than tomato.
