Pressed Ammolite
Pressed Ammolite (#CFF8DB) is a soft green with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (138°, 75%, 89%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Latin pressāre, to press — past-participle of press. As a color modifier, pressed implies a clear-and-smoothed-and-flattened quality, the crisp color of Mid-Century-Modern freshly-pressed-shirt-and-trouser ironed-textile finish. Sits at the crisp-and-finished end of the grid, parallel to ironed and starched in usage.
The fossilized iridescent shell of Placenticeras ammonites — mined principally from the Bearpaw Formation in southern Alberta, Canada. The color refers to a polished ammolite cabochon: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-green with the iridescent satin finish of structurally colored ancient nacre.
