Pressed Celery
Pressed Celery (#CFEAAA) is a soft lime with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (85°, 60%, 79%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary indigo. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Latin pressāre, to press — past-participle of press. As a color modifier, pressed implies a clear-and-smoothed-and-flattened quality, the crisp color of Mid-Century-Modern freshly-pressed-shirt-and-trouser ironed-textile finish. Sits at the crisp-and-finished end of the grid, parallel to ironed and starched in usage.
Apium graveolens, the marsh herb cultivated for its crisp pale-green stalks since at least the time of Homer, though the modern crunchy celery is a nineteenth-century selection. The color refers to a fresh celery rib in profile: a soft, slightly muted pale green with the optical translucency of high-water-content vegetable tissue. Lighter than pear, cooler than wheat.
