Old English spearca, spark — present-participle of spark. As a color modifier, sparking implies a saturated-and-electrical-emission quality, the bright color of welding-arc-and-Tesla-coil high-voltage spark-discharge emission. The Japanese rice wine — fermented from polished rice and used in religious offerings, weddings, and the kanpai toast. Sake color refers to fresh-poured junmai sake in a masu cedar box: a soft, slightly cool pale yellow with the optical clarity of grain-fermented alcohol. Cooler than mead.
