Liminal Amazonite
Liminal Amazonite (#CEF8FA) is a soft cyan with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (183°, 81%, 89%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Latin līminis, threshold — adjectival suffix -al, sharing root with limen (door-sill). As a color modifier, liminal implies a pale-and-edge-and-threshold-and-transitional quality, the pale color of dawn-and-dusk civil-and-nautical-twilight transitional-light atmospheric-condition. Sits at the pale-and-soft end of the grid, parallel to threshold-thin and transitional in usage.
A blue-green variety of microcline feldspar — colored by trace lead and water in its crystal structure. Mined since ancient times in the Russian Urals and now in Colorado, Madagascar, and Brazil. The color refers to a polished amazonite cabochon: a soft, slightly muted blue-green with the cloudy translucency of feldspar. Cooler than jade, warmer than cerulean, with the mineral-trade specificity of a stone named for the Amazon basin where it doesn't actually occur.
