Sheer Camas
Sheer Camas (#CEDFF5) is a soft azure with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (214°, 66%, 88%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Etymology
Old English scīr, clear, pure — used as a color modifier since the eighteenth century for hues with the optical translucency of fine fabric. Sheer white, sheer blue: very low saturation combined with the optical impression of fabric with low fiber density. Sits at the pale-bucket alongside diaphanous.
The genus Camassia — camas lily, North American native bulbs whose deep-blue flower spikes were a staple food source for Pacific Northwest Indigenous peoples (the bulbs are cooked in pit ovens). The color refers to a C. quamash meadow at peak bloom: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue with the satin finish of six-petaled lily-form flower.
