Dusted Zǐ
Dusted Zǐ (#CEBDCC) is a soft violet with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Quiet and dependable, a fit for product UI and data visualization. Its HSL profile (307°, 15%, 77%) places it in the muted band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary green. Etymology
Old English dūst, dust — past-participle of dust. As a color modifier, dusted implies a pale-and-fine-particle-deposited quality, the pale color of baker's-and-confectioner's powdered-sugar-and-flour finely-deposited dusting-and-finishing-coating surface. Sits at the pale-and-soft end of the grid, parallel to sprinkled and sifted in usage.
Chinese 紫, purple — the imperial court color of the Tang and Song dynasties, derived from Lithospermum erythrorhizon (gromwell) and overdyed with Polygonum tinctorium. Zǐ color refers to a Tang-dynasty imperial robe field: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the silk luster of multi-bath gromwell-root-and-indigo overdye on tussah silk. Cooler than zǐsè (formal deep purple).
