Earnest Ametrine
Earnest Ametrine (#CE4CCF) is a true violet with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Quiet and dependable, a fit for product UI and data visualization. Its HSL profile (300°, 58%, 55%) places it in the balanced band at a mid lightness. Etymology
Old English eornost, seriousness, zeal. Used as a color modifier since the nineteenth century for hues that read as committed but unshowy — the working blues of denim, the deep greens of Quaker meetinghouses. Sits in the bold-and-quiet corner of the grid, slightly less luminous than resolute and slightly less institutional than imperial.
Naturally bicolored amethyst-citrine zoned quartz mined principally at the Anahí mine in eastern Bolivia. The deep-violet amethyst portion contrasts with the golden citrine zone in a single crystal. Ametrine color refers to the deep-violet amethyst zone of a polished Anahí-mine ametrine cabochon: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the glassy finish of iron-and-aluminum-substituted quartz under reflected light.
