Vivid Canary
Vivid Canary (#CDEB7F) is a soft lime with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Quiet and dependable, a fit for product UI and data visualization. Its HSL profile (77°, 73%, 71%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. Etymology
From the Latin vividus, full of life — used as a color modifier since the late sixteenth century for hues that read as luminous and saturated. Vivid red, vivid blue: the implication is that the color appears almost lit from within, with the optical brightness of a high-chroma surface in good light. Sits at the bright-bucket center alongside bright and electric.
The domesticated Serinus canaria, bred in the Canary Islands and exported to European cages from the seventeenth century. The wild bird is greenish; centuries of selective breeding produced the saturated yellow of the modern canary. The color is the breast feathers of a yellow domestic canary: a clean, bright yellow with the slight orange shift of carotenoid pigment in feathers, identical chemistry to the carotenes in flamingo plumage.
