Cellophane Maui
Cellophane Maui (#CDE6CF) is a soft green with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (125°, 33%, 85%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Modern French cellophane, cellulose-thin-film — coined in 1900 by Jacques-E.-Brandenberger. As a color modifier, cellophane implies a pale-and-clear-and-thin-film quality, the pale color of Mid-Century-Modern clear-and-thin cellulose-acetate cellophane-wrapping translucent-film surface. Sits at the pale-and-thin end of the grid, parallel to glassine and tissue in usage.
The Hawaiian island — and the saturated turquoise of Maui's Molokini Crater snorkeling-lagoon water. Maui refers to Molokini Crater at midday: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-green with the optical clarity of cold Pacific water filtered through volcanic black-sand and white coral.
