Floating Toga
Floating Toga (#CDC4D7) is a soft indigo with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (268°, 19%, 81%) places it in the muted band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary lime. Old English flotian, to float — present-participle of float. As a color modifier, floating implies a pale-and-suspended-and-buoyant quality where the hue carries the visual register of cork-on-water-and-balloon-in-air lifted-and-suspended movement. Sits at the pale-and-soft end of the grid, parallel to buoyant and floaty in usage.

Toga color refers to a Roman-imperial toga picta on a triumphal arch spolia relief: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the matte finish of multi-bath Tyrian shellfish-dye on multi-rolled woolen toga cloth. Distinct from the white toga virilis.
