Sifted Amazonite
Sifted Amazonite (#CCEBEC) is a soft cyan with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (182°, 46%, 86%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary red. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Old English siftan, to sift — past-participle of sift. As a color modifier, sifted implies a pale-and-fine-particle-and-uniformly-distributed quality, the pale color of baker's sifted-and-fine-flour finely-distributed-and-uniform-deposit surface-finish. Sits at the pale-and-soft end of the grid, parallel to dusted and sprinkled in usage.
A blue-green variety of microcline feldspar — colored by trace lead and water in its crystal structure. Mined since ancient times in the Russian Urals and now in Colorado, Madagascar, and Brazil. The color refers to a polished amazonite cabochon: a soft, slightly muted blue-green with the cloudy translucency of feldspar. Cooler than jade, warmer than cerulean, with the mineral-trade specificity of a stone named for the Amazon basin where it doesn't actually occur.
