Cellophane Tarn
Cellophane Tarn (#C7EDFE) is a soft cyan with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (199°, 96%, 89%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary orange. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Modern French cellophane, cellulose-thin-film — coined in 1900 by Jacques-E.-Brandenberger. As a color modifier, cellophane implies a pale-and-clear-and-thin-film quality, the pale color of Mid-Century-Modern clear-and-thin cellulose-acetate cellophane-wrapping translucent-film surface. Sits at the pale-and-thin end of the grid, parallel to glassine and tissue in usage.
A small mountain lake — particularly the cwm (cirque) lakes of the British Lake District, the Welsh hills, and the Norwegian peaks. From the Old Norse tjörn. Tarn color refers to a fresh-water tarn at Stickle Tarn in Cumbria: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue with the optical depth of cold-water mountain pool.
