Aglow Sugilite
Aglow Sugilite (#C580FF) is a soft indigo with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Quiet and dependable, a fit for product UI and data visualization. Its HSL profile (273°, 100%, 75%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary lime. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Old English on-glōwan, on-glow — sharing root with glow and gleam. As a color modifier, aglow implies a saturated-and-lit-from-within quality, the bright color of fireplace-and-jack-o-lantern interior-glow-lit warm-light emission against ambient darkness. Sits at the bright-and-warm end of the grid, parallel to glowing and aflame in usage.
A manganese-bearing cyclosilicate gem first described in 1944, with major sources in South Africa's Wessels Mine. The color refers to a polished sugilite cabochon: a saturated, slightly red-shifted deep purple with the matte finish of opaque mineral. Cooler than amethyst, warmer than tanzanite, with the gem-trade rarity of a stone produced commercially from one principal mine and priced accordingly.
