Calm Pallium
Calm Pallium (#C2ABEA) is a soft indigo with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (262°, 60%, 79%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary lime. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Latin calma, heat of the day — paradoxically drifted in Italian to mean stillness. Used as a color modifier since the seventeenth century for hues that read as untroubled. Calm blue, calm gray: moderate saturation combined with optical quiet. Sits at the crisp-bucket near quiet and steady.
Roman cloak — and the medieval pallium of the Pope, a deep-violet wool stole worn as a Petrine symbol of papal authority. Pallium color refers to a 12th-century Lateran-period papal pallium: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the matte finish of multi-bath Tyrian shellfish-dye on hand-spun ecclesiastical wool. The Latin word pallium also gave English pall and palliative.
