Chalky Tarn
Chalky Tarn (#C0DCDB) is a soft cyan with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (178°, 29%, 81%) places it in the muted band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Etymology
An adjectival form of chalk — used as a color modifier since the seventeenth century for hues with the matte finish of chalk pigment. Chalky white, chalky blue: low saturation combined with the optical mattness of micron-scale calcium carbonate. Sits at the pale-bucket alongside powder and dusty.
A small mountain lake — particularly the cwm (cirque) lakes of the British Lake District, the Welsh hills, and the Norwegian peaks. From the Old Norse tjörn. Tarn color refers to a fresh-water tarn at Stickle Tarn in Cumbria: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue with the optical depth of cold-water mountain pool.
