Wholesome Phlox

#bfcdfe
Notes

Wholesome Phlox (#BFCDFE) is a soft blue with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (227°, 97%, 87%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary amber. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.

Etymology

Wholesome
adjective

An adjectival form of whole — used as a color modifier since the sixteenth century for hues that read as healthy and unadulterated. Wholesome cream, wholesome wheat: moderate saturation combined with the optical impression of a natural origin. Sits at the crisp-bucket alongside genuine.

Phlox
noun

The genus Phloxflame in Greek, for the brightness of its flower colors. P. subulata is the creeping moss phlox of rock gardens; P. paniculata is the tall summer-border phlox in cottage gardens. The color refers to a fresh blue-violet phlox cluster: a saturated, slightly violet-shifted blue-purple with the matte finish of densely packed five-petaled flowers. Cooler than wisteria, warmer than veronica.
