Floating Eupatorium
Floating Eupatorium (#BFBEDE) is a soft blue with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (242°, 33%, 81%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Old English flotian, to float — present-participle of float. As a color modifier, floating implies a pale-and-suspended-and-buoyant quality where the hue carries the visual register of cork-on-water-and-balloon-in-air lifted-and-suspended movement. North American native Joe-Pye Weed (Eupatorium purpureum) — a six-foot-tall prairie perennial with terminal corymbs of dusty mauve-violet disk-flowers attractive to Monarchs in their fall migration. Eupatorium color refers to a fully bloomed Joe-Pye Weed corymb: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-violet with the velvet finish of dense disk-flower clusters. Named for Mithridates Eupator, the herbal-medicine king of Pontus.
