Sifted Cuì
Sifted Cuì (#BED2BB) is a soft green with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Old English siftan, to sift — past-participle of sift. As a color modifier, sifted implies a pale-and-fine-particle-and-uniformly-distributed quality, the pale color of baker's sifted-and-fine-flour finely-distributed-and-uniform-deposit surface-finish. Sits at the pale-and-soft end of the grid, parallel to dusted and sprinkled in usage.
The Chinese word for kingfisher — and the saturated blue-green of kingfisher feathers used in classical Chinese cuì-yū (kingfisher feather) imperial ornament. The color refers to a polished fei-cuì (jadeite-cuì) bangle: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-green with the satin finish of imperial-grade jade.
