Antiseptic Watermelon

#be8cb2
Notes

Antiseptic Watermelon (#BE8CB2) is a true magenta with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Quiet and dependable, a fit for product UI and data visualization. Its HSL profile (314°, 28%, 65%) places it in the muted band at a mid lightness. It works across type, buttons, and borders, saturated enough to feel deliberate but balanced enough to not fight the rest of the palette. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary green. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.

Etymology

Antiseptic
adjective

Greek anti- (against) plus sēptikós (putrefying) — adjectival suffix -ic. As a color modifier, antiseptic implies a clear-and-disinfected-and-clinical quality, the crisp color of medical-laboratory and operating-theater hand-scrub-and-sanitizer surfaces. Sits at the crisp-and-clean end of the grid, parallel to sterile and sanitary in usage.

Watermelon
noun

Citrullus lanatus, the African cucurbit cultivated for at least four thousand years for its high-water-content red flesh. The color refers to the cross-section of a ripe watermelon's interior: a saturated, slightly cool deep pink-red with the optical brightness of high-water-content fruit pigmented by lycopene. Cooler than coral, warmer than salmon, with the summer-cookout weight of a fruit that gives English a synonym for unripe-pink.
