Cool Phlox
Cool Phlox (#BCA5F9) is a soft indigo with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (256°, 88%, 81%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
Old English cōl, of low temperature — used as a color modifier as the complement to warm. Cool gray, cool blue: the optical impression of a slight blue-green shift, even within otherwise warm or neutral hues. Sits across the crisp, hushed, pale, and neutral buckets.
The genus Phlox — flame in Greek, for the brightness of its flower colors. P. subulata is the creeping moss phlox of rock gardens; P. paniculata is the tall summer-border phlox in cottage gardens. The color refers to a fresh blue-violet phlox cluster: a saturated, slightly violet-shifted blue-purple with the matte finish of densely packed five-petaled flowers. Cooler than wisteria, warmer than veronica.
