Light Idanthrene
Light Idanthrene (#BBCCEB) is a soft azure with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (219°, 55%, 83%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Etymology
Old English līht, not heavy — and an entirely separate Old English lēoht, brightness, that fused into the modern English word with both meanings overlapping. The trade name for vat blue synthetic dyes — particularly Idanthrene Blue RS (BASF, 1901), a polycyclic aromatic dye that displaced indigo for many industrial textile applications. The color refers to Idanthrene-dyed industrial cotton: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue with the matte finish of synthetic-pigment-and-cotton.
