Cellophane Ravenna
Cellophane Ravenna (#BBBFDC) is a soft blue with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (233°, 32%, 80%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary amber. Etymology
Modern French cellophane, cellulose-thin-film — coined in 1900 by Jacques-E.-Brandenberger. As a color modifier, cellophane implies a pale-and-clear-and-thin-film quality, the pale color of Mid-Century-Modern clear-and-thin cellulose-acetate cellophane-wrapping translucent-film surface. Sits at the pale-and-thin end of the grid, parallel to glassine and tissue in usage.
Italian late-Roman / early-Byzantine capital (5th–8th centuries) — home of the San Vitale and Sant'Apollinare in Classe basilicas with their iconic deep-blue glass-tessera mosaic vaults. Ravenna color refers to the deep-blue glass-tessera background of San Vitale's Justinian and Theodora mosaic: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-violet with the glossy finish of Byzantine cobalt-glass tessera under raking light.
