Open Woad
Open Woad (#BAF2F6) is a soft cyan with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Etymology
Old English open, unobstructed — used as a color modifier since the eighteenth century for hues that read as airy or uncrowded. Open blue, open green: moderate saturation combined with optical spaciousness, the slight visual breath of a hue that doesn't crowd the surface it covers. Isatis tinctoria, the European blue-dye plant whose leaves yield indigo-equivalent indigotin. Used by Pictish warriors as body paint and the dominant pre-industrial European blue dye until East Indian indigo displaced it in the seventeenth century. The color refers to a freshly woad-dyed wool: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue with the matte finish of plant-and-mordant dye.
