Cloudlike Cardoon
Cloudlike Cardoon (#BADFCE) is a soft teal with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (152°, 37%, 80%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary magenta. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
A compound of cloud and like — used as a color modifier since the nineteenth century for hues with the optical softness of cumulus cloud. Cloudlike gray, cloudlike pink: very low saturation combined with high lightness and optical translucency. Sits at the pale-bucket alongside misty and feathery.
Cynara cardunculus, the Mediterranean thistle — relative of the globe artichoke (C. cardunculus var. scolymus) — with deeply lobed silver-green foliage and architectural form. The color refers to mature cardoon foliage in a kitchen garden: a soft, slightly cool silver-green-blue with the matte finish of large pinnately lobed leaves.
