Stately Calendula
Stately Calendula (#BA5138) is a true red with an earthy character. It leans grounded and natural, the kind of color that plays well with wood, clay, linen, and warm neutrals. An adjectival form of state, condition of dignity. Calendula officinalis, the pot marigold of medieval European herbal gardens — used as a saffron substitute in Renaissance kitchens and as a wound-healing salve in Victorian apothecaries. The color refers to a fully open Calendula flower: a saturated, slightly red yellow-orange with the matte finish of small ray-florets. Cooler than marigold, brighter than goldenrod.
