Gallant Nasturtium
Gallant Nasturtium (#BA3404) is a true orange with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (16°, 96%, 37%) places it in the highly saturated band at a mid lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Old French galant, brave / charming — present-participle of galer (to make merry). As a color modifier, gallant implies a saturated-and-chivalrous-and-confident quality, the deep-rich color of Three-Musketeers and Cyrano-de-Bergerac swashbuckling adventure tradition. Sits at the bold-and-chivalrous end of the grid, parallel to valiant and heroic.
Tropaeolum majus, the South American climbing plant naturalized as a kitchen-garden flower across Europe. Nasturtium (from the Latin naris-torquere, nose-twisting, for the peppery flavor) has edible leaves and saturated red-orange flowers. The color refers to a fresh T. majus bloom: a saturated, slightly red orange with the satin finish of bee-pollinated flower. Brighter than carrot.
