Washed Bonaire (#B7E1D2) is a soft teal with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Old English wascan, to wash — past-participle of wash. As a color modifier, washed implies a pale-and-tone-reduced quality where the hue carries the visual register of multi-decade Connecticut-laundry-line repeatedly-washed-and-faded textile color-finish. Sits at the pale-and-faded end of the grid, parallel to faded and bleached in usage.
The Dutch Caribbean island — and the saturated blue-green of Bonaire's marine-park reef waters, designated the world's first national-park dive zone in 1979. Bonaire refers to the lagoon water around Klein Bonaire: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-green with the optical clarity of southern Caribbean reef water.
