Sheer Konjō
Sheer Konjō (#B7CEDE) is a soft azure with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (205°, 37%, 79%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary orange. Etymology
Old English scīr, clear, pure — used as a color modifier since the eighteenth century for hues with the optical translucency of fine fabric. Sheer white, sheer blue: very low saturation combined with the optical impression of fabric with low fiber density. Sits at the pale-bucket alongside diaphanous.
Japanese konjō (紺青) — deep blue-azure, the saturated deep navy used in Edo-period samurai inner robes and Buddhist mandala backgrounds. Distinct from konpeki by its slightly cooler shift toward navy. The color refers to a konjō-dyed silk: a saturated, slightly cool dark blue with the satin finish of multi-bath dyed silk.
