Wholesome Mast Mint

An adjectival form of whole — used as a color modifier since the sixteenth century for hues that read as healthy and unadulterated. Wholesome cream, wholesome wheat: moderate saturation combined with the optical impression of a natural origin. Sits at the crisp-bucket alongside genuine.

Old English mæst, long-pole. As a color modifier, mast implies a tall-pole-with-sails quality, the visual register of Tall-Ship-and-Royal-Navy-Mast hand-rigged tall-mast-with-sail-and-yard tall-ship-and-frigate maritime-architecture surfaces under tall-ship-mast-and-yard maritime-overhead light. The genus Mentha — peppermint, spearmint, apple mint, water mint — the cooling herb whose menthol gives it that quality at the molecular level.
