Inscribed Blueprint
Inscribed Blueprint (#B2CAED) is a soft azure with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (216°, 62%, 81%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary amber. Etymology
Latin īnscrībere, to write upon — past-participle of inscribe. As a color modifier, inscribed implies a clear-and-text-or-pattern-cut quality, the crisp color of Roman-Imperial-period monumental-stone inscription-and-monumental-text incised-relief. Sits at the crisp-and-incised end of the grid, parallel to etched and engraved in usage.
The cyanotype reproduction process — invented by John Herschel in 1842 — used for architectural and engineering drawings until digital reproduction replaced it in the late twentieth century. Blueprint color refers to a fresh cyanotype print: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue with the matte finish of iron-cyanide-on-paper.
