Rich Hortensia (#B04BFC) is a true indigo with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Its HSL profile (274°, 97%, 64%) places it in the highly saturated band at a mid lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Old French riche, wealthy, abundant — applied to color since the medieval period for hues that read as plentiful in pigment. Hortensia color refers to a fully bloomed Hydrangea macrophylla mophead in acidic Breton soil: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the velvet finish of dense aluminum-anthocyanin-bonded sepal-flowers. Named after Hortense de Beauharnais, stepdaughter of Napoleon and Queen of Holland.
