Reinforced Alkanet
Reinforced Alkanet (#AF0378) is a true magenta with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (319°, 97%, 35%) places it in the highly saturated band at a mid lightness. Latin re- plus inforce — past-participle of reinforce. Anchusa tinctoria, the Mediterranean borage whose roots yield a red dye used since classical times for cosmetics and wine coloring. The color refers to fresh alkanet-dyed wool: a saturated, slightly cool deep red with the matte finish of plant-and-mordant dye. Cooler than madder, deeper than crimson.
