Highborn Fei
Highborn Fei (#AE0174) is a deep magenta with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (320°, 99%, 34%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Old English hēah-boren, high-born — past-participle of bear. As a color modifier, highborn implies a saturated-and-aristocratic-and-elite quality, the deep-rich color of pre-modern English high-born aristocratic-class livery-and-armorial bearings. Sits at the bold-and-aristocratic end of the grid, parallel to noble and aristocratic in usage.
A bright, slightly cool red used in Chinese textile tradition for the inner robes of Tang-dynasty court officials. The color refers to a fei-dyed silk: a saturated, slightly cool red with the satin finish of plant-dye-on-silk. Cooler than hong, brighter than jiang. The Chinese cousin of karakurenai.
