Pressed Karakoram
Pressed Karakoram (#ADAFE7) is a soft blue with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (238°, 55%, 79%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary yellow. Latin pressāre, to press — past-participle of press. As a color modifier, pressed implies a clear-and-smoothed-and-flattened quality, the crisp color of Mid-Century-Modern freshly-pressed-shirt-and-trouser ironed-textile finish. Karakoram color refers to an unworked Sar-e-Sang lapis-lazuli boulder freshly extracted from the Karakoram foothills: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-violet with the matte finish of pyrite-flecked lazurite ore on rough fracture surface.
