Rugged Sangria
Rugged Sangria (#AD0177) is a deep magenta with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (319°, 99%, 34%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
Old Norse rugga, rough / coarse — adjectival suffix -ed. As a color modifier, rugged implies a saturated-and-rough-and-weathered quality, the deep-rich color of Scottish-Highlands-and-Norwegian-fjord outdoor-and-mountain landscape. Sits at the bold-and-weathered end of the grid, parallel to tough and sinewy in usage.
Spanish for bleeding — the wine punch named for its color, not the other way around. The color is the deep red of Tempranillo or Garnacha aerated with citrus and fruit: a warm, slightly translucent red-violet that catches light through a glass jug. Less black than burgundy, warmer than wine, with the dusty rim of a long afternoon.
