Cellophane Coronet
Cellophane Coronet (#ACA7C7) is a soft blue with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Quiet and dependable, a fit for product UI and data visualization. Its HSL profile (249°, 22%, 72%) places it in the muted band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. Etymology
Modern French cellophane, cellulose-thin-film — coined in 1900 by Jacques-E.-Brandenberger. As a color modifier, cellophane implies a pale-and-clear-and-thin-film quality, the pale color of Mid-Century-Modern clear-and-thin cellulose-acetate cellophane-wrapping translucent-film surface. Sits at the pale-and-thin end of the grid, parallel to glassine and tissue in usage.
Old French coronete, little crown — a small ornamental crown worn by lower-rank European nobility (dukes, earls, viscounts, barons) and Crown Princes of Britain. The coronet of an English duke is set with deep-blue sapphire. Coronet color refers to an English duke's coronet with its sapphire alternation: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-violet with the glassy finish of polished Ceylon sapphire on gilt metal.
